At 2:54 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2020, Local members responded to a small brush fire near the shooting range at Cherry Creek State Park. As members were responding smoke was already visible from a distance and more than an acre was burning.
Deertrail Drive Structure Fire
08/13/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 2:07 p.m. on Thursday, August 13, 2020, Local members responded to numerous 911 reports of a house fire in the 7600 block of Deertrail Drive in Douglas County. A large plume of black smoke was already visible for miles as emergency personnel responded. First arriving Battalion Chief 4 found a 2-car detached garage fully engulfed with flames, spreading to an adjacent home, trees and grass.
Castle Pines Wildland Interface Fire
08/13/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
On Wednesday August 12, 2020, Local members responded to a vegetation fire near the Southbound Castle Pines on ramp along Interstate 25. Multiple callers stated the fire was growing quickly, spreading to the west up the hill and threatening an apartment complex nearby. Battalion Chief 4 upgraded the incident to a large brush fire and wildland interface fire, adding more units to the call.

Final call for teams or individuals to sign up for the MnFORE Golf Tournamet is this FRIDAY, AUGUST 14th at 10:00am.  MnFIRE is looking for a final count of registrations by Friday morning in order to determine if the they'll be able to move forward with the much anticipated event on September 8th, 2020.

08/12/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
Just before 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday August 11, 2020, Local 2086 and 1309 members responded to a vegetation fire off of Lakeside Ct. in Unincorporated Douglas County. With dry conditions and high wind speeds, the fire began spreading quickly, threatening properties and homes nearby.
War Bonnet Trail Brush Fire

At 4:39 p.m. on Saturday August 1, 2020, Local members responded to numerous reports of a vegetation fire burning between War Bonnet Trail and Bowstring Trail in Douglas County. When members arrived, they found approximately 1-acre burning in a mix of grass, brush and trees, being pushed by gusty winds through a ravine to the west.

MDA Fill the Boot Goes Online This Year

Every day, children are born with muscular dystrophy and adults are diagnosed with ALS and other life-threatening diseases that take away their most basic freedoms - like walking, talking, eating, hugging, and ultimately life itself. For more than sixty years, firefighters have been Filling the Boot on street corners (and I'll still be there!)- raising money to help MDA fight back.

Local 21 Brothers and Sisters, Yesterday the MDA kicked off their 2020 Virtual Fill the Boot Fundraiser.  On Monday, August 17th through Friday, August 21st, we will conduct our own virtual drive.  IAFF Local 21 will utilize our various platforms to get the word out, but it will be our members who can truly make this a success.

Working fire on Prospect St

On August 3, around 4:15pm, a working fire was called at 57 Prospect St/234 Hickory St.  Due to the ballon frame construction and the heat/humidity, the fire went to 3 alarms.  Four firefighters were transported to the hospital and released.
Flames destroy Livonia Grill restaurant

Flames may have totally destroyed the Livonia Grill family restaurant, according to Livonia fire officials. On Monday, fire investigators visited the 27545 Plymouth Road ruins to collect evidence regarding the cause. They said the fire began in the ceiling space and extended through the roof.

Top floor fire on 6th St
08/02/20 - IAFF Local 892
Around 18:15 on August 1, Engine 2 and Headquarters were dispatched to 90 Sixth Street for a possible structure fire.  A working fire was confirmed while units were responding.  E2 arrived and stretched a hand line to the top floor of the 2 1/2 story wood frame, single family house.  Additional units supplied water and performed a primary search, while Truck 1 vented the roof.

Chatfield State Park Water Rescue/Recovery
08/01/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 3:22 p.m. on Friday July 31, 2020, South Metro’s Dive Rescue Team responded to the Catfish Flats area of Chatfield State Park for a swimmer missing in the water. Witnesses on a nearby boat saw 2 people struggling to swim and were able to safely rescue one of them who was not injured. Sadly, the other person went under the water and could not be located.
Cherry Creek State Park Brush Fire
08/01/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 11:37 on Thursday, July 30, 2020, Local members responded to the south side of Cherry Creek State Park after several people called 911 and reported a brush fire. Smoke and flames were visible from Peoria Street and when crews arrived, they found a wood slash pile engulfed with flames.  Members protected the adjacent grass and nearby piles from igniting and worked to control the fire.
Platte Canyon Rd. Brush Fire
08/01/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
Around 4:30 p.m. on Monday July 27, 2020, Local members responded to a vegetation fire on the South Platte Reservoir property, located north of C-470 and east of Platte Canyon Road. Several people reported the fire to 911 and a column of smoke was visible while crews were responding. Upon arrival, members found a 100x50 foot area of grass and trees on fire along the creek bed.

07/31/20 - Norwalk Professional Firefighters
Norwalk Fire Department Press Release The Norwalk fire Department along with PD and Norwalk Hospital responded to a motor vehicle fire on Connecticut ave. This was a four car mva with one car taking down three utility poles. The high tension wires surrounded the car and it burst into flames. The two occupants managed to get out with the help of bystanders.

Passing of retired LT James McKeon

IAFF Local 853 and the Fire Chief regret to announce the passing of retired Lieutenant James McKeon. Here is the link for the full obituary.    https://memorials.blakefuneralhome.com/james-mckeon/4283399/obituary.php James McKeon was appointed to the Lowell Fire Department on January 9, 1983. He was promoted to Lieutenant on February 2, 1992.

Southern Hills Circle Second Alarm Structure Fire

At 7:36 p.m. on Monday July 20, 2020, Local members responded to a multi-family structure fire in the 9400 block of Southern Hills Circle in Lone Tree. Multiple 911 callers reported the back of 2 town homes on fire and a plume of smoke was visible from a distance. First arriving Tower 34 encountered a large volume of fire consuming the rear of the structure and flames coming out the front door.
Littleton Bear in Tree
07/25/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
At 10:40 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2020, Local members assisted Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Littleton Police with a bear in a tree in the 7100 block of South Windermere Street. The bear had already been tranquilized when members arrived and an aerial ladder was needed. Members and Wildlife Officers worked together to remove the bear and carefully lower it to the ground.
Chatfield Vehicle Recovery
07/25/20 - South Metro Firefighters IAFF LOCAL 2086
Just before 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 18, 2020, Battalion 1, Dive 16 and Medic 16 responded to the north boat ramp at Chatfield State Park for a vehicle recovery. Thankfully no one was injured or trapped when a truck, trailer and jet ski rolled down the ramp and under the water. Divers connected tow straps and cables and a heavy wrecker was used to safely pull the vehicle out. https://www.
